Facade Improvement Grant

 

Fell’s Point Main Street currently offers Façade Improvement Grants to Fell’s Point businesses and commercial property owners, including complimentary design services, for properties within Fell's Point's Historic District. These grants fund 50% of eligible expenses incurred in connection with a façade improvement project, up to a maximum of $6,000. Please complete the two-page FIG application at your earliest convenience and email it with the required supporting documentation and digital photographs to jbrichter@comcast.net  or, if you prefer, mail hard copies to Fell's Point Main Street, P.O. Box 38245, Baltimore MD 21231, attention FIG Committee.
NOTE: All FIG projects must first be approved by the Maryland Historic Trust and Baltimore Main Streets before any facade work may begin. Fell’s Point Main Street handles all administrative work on your behalf, including the optional request for courtesy design services, letters of support and other grant paperwork required by various City and State agencies. Once your project has been approved, you will receive an approval letter from Baltimore Main Streets and be given 90 days in which to complete your project. Extensions are granted, but need a sound basis. Two estimates are now required for larger projects. However, selection of the project contractor is entirely up to you.   
 
In addition to the grants Fell’s Point Main Street offers, we provide assistance with the Notice to Proceed (NTP) application, a step in the formal permitting process. This document should be emailed to the Fell's Point Design Review Committee (DRC) in order to obtain the approval to proceed with your project from the Baltimore's Commission for Historic and Architectural
Preservation, a/k/a CHAP.  DRC does much of its project review by email and can be reached at fellsdrc@yahoo.com. For complex cases, DRC meets with business representatives at Union Wharf. If you are planning to repaint your storefront, please visit Budeke's Paints at 418 S. Broadway and select your colors from their historic paint palettes. This will save time since you are required to use approved historic paint colors for all exterior work.
